Staying here
- How many rooms are there?
- Twelve, and never more — from the Champagne Suite to the Royal Suite, and no two are alike.
- What time can I check in and out?
- Check-in from 3:00pm, check-out by 11:00am. Late check-out is subject to availability and may carry a fee.
- Is breakfast included?
- Booking direct includes breakfast for two, every morning of your stay.
- Can I cancel?
- On our flexible rate, free up to 5 days before arrival. Inside 5 days we charge the first night. Non-refundable rates are booked at a 10% discount and cannot be cancelled or moved.
The house
- How old is the building?
- It was raised in 1881 for Theodore F. Payne and Mary Pauline O'Brien, and designed by the architect William Curlett. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 11 June 1980.
- Is there a lift?
- Yes. The house has an elevator, which is not a given in a building of this age.
- Is the house accessible?
- Yes — the house is ADA accessible and has an elevator. Because it is a landmarked 1881 building, some arrangements are particular to it, so please contact us ahead and we will walk you through exactly what to expect on arrival.
- Is there a restaurant?
- A parlor library and café are on their way. Until they open, the house's original parlors are there for guests to use.
Practicalities
- Can I bring a dog?
- One suite in the house is pet-friendly. Dogs are $150 each, up to 85 lbs, and a crate is required. Service animals as defined under the ADA are welcome throughout, regardless of pet policy.
- Where do I park?
- There is self parking on site at $59 plus tax per night, first come, first served. Spaces cannot be reserved, so tell us in advance and we will let you know how the night is looking. Garage remotes are returned at checkout; the Terms set a $45 fee for one that is not.
- Are children welcome?
- Yes. Additional person charges apply: $60 for children under 5, $100 for anyone over 5.
- Where exactly are you?
- 1409 Sutter Street, where Japantown, Pacific Heights and Hayes Valley meet. Union Square and City Hall are an easy walk.
